Before you head out on that ice fishing trip this winter, we wanted to give you some basic tips to help you make the most of your time away.
In this article, we are going to highlight five tips or hacks that will help you land that big walleye or at least have a great time away.
1. Keep Updated
Ice fishing, like any sport, is always evolving and changing. You want to make sure that you keep in the loop, and keep up with the latest trends. Take some time and read magazines, watch some TV shows, and even attend seminars. This information will help you make informed decisions on what people are using to catch great walleye and pike.
2. Come Prepared
Make sure that you have the right tools and equipment to get the job done. We have put together a list of the latest tools that will help you on your ice fishing adventure. These tools are all high-rated on Amazon and are tried and tested.
Make sure to bring a couple of rods, several lures, extra line, some steel leaders and snacks for your time. I also like to bring some different games with me so that you have something to do while you wait.
It’s also important to dress for the weather. Ice Bungalows is an excellent place to ice fish because you get to stay inside and fish Lake Nipissing. Always come prepared just in case you decide to go outside and do some fishing around the lake.
3. Be Aware
The last time we were ice fishing, it took a while before we caught any fish. We had concluded, after watching our lines and seeing them move a little over time, that the fish were nibbling our lines and not being very aggressive.
This inside information allowed us to be aggressive when we saw our lines move even a little. This allowed us to catch more fish in the end.
Be aware of how the fish are reacting to your line and use this information to help you decide which lures to use or how to fish in general. Fishing is a sport and takes time to master it. Don’t worry if you don’t catch a lot of fish – enjoy yourself and have a great time.
4. Always Fish the Prime Times
Make sure that you’re fishing the prime times during your stay. Most species of fish are more aggressive during the morning and late afternoon; make sure that you have a fishing line in the water during those times.
This doesn’t mean that you won’t catch anything during the day. I’ve caught several large walleye in the early afternoon. I’m just saying that most fish are more aggressive during prime times.
5. Just Do It
There may be several reasons why you shouldn’t go ice fishing, but there are also several reasons why you should.
Ice fishing is a great way to get away from the stress of life and enjoy some time together in Northern Ontario.
We would love for you to give Ice Bungalows a try. We know that you will really enjoy your time away and you may catch the big one.
