Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, at least that’s what we have been told. There are many days that you don’t have the time to make breakfast, and your only option is to stop by your favourite fast food chain and grab a breakfast sandwich.
Breakfast sandwiches always hit the spot for me, and they are super easy to eat in the car.
The question that we had at LTN, is which breakfast sandwich is the best?
So, we set out to find the answer to this rather puzzling question. We traveled to the top Canadian fast food chains which offer breakfast sandwichs:
There could be more, but these were the only ones that we could think of. You can add the names of the fast food chains below in the comments that offer a breakfast sandwich that we missed.
We purchased their most popular sandwiches to settle this debate once and for all. We set out to answer three important questions in this experiment. First, we wanted to see which sandwich tasted the best, which one was the healthiest, and which breakfast sandwich is the cheapest to purchase.
Alright, I’m off to grab the breakfast sandwiches, and when I begin the next paragraph, they will all be purchased, researched (by research, I mean eaten), and I’ll break down for you all my findings. Let’s do this!
My son and I, enjoyed the breakfast sandwiches and we wrote down some notes that will explain our rankings below. We’ll begin the #5 and work our way to the best breakfast sandwich in Canada.
Don’t agree with our findings? That’s fine. You can add your comments below and let us know your favourite.
#5. Subway – Egg and Bacon English Muffin
Here are some nutrition facts about the Subway Breakfast sandwich.
Price | $3.50 |

CALORIES | 360 |
TOTAL FAT (g) | 24 |
SODIUM (mg) | 730 |
CARBOHYDRATES (g) | 22 |

The Subway breakfast sandwich was our least favourite because it just didn’t meet our expectations of what a breakfast sandwich should be.
There was too much egg, the English muffin was tough and the egg had a really weird flavour to it.
The only PRO that I see from purchasing any Subway breakfast sandwich is that you can customize it the way you want it. Add any cheese, vegetables, and sauces – other than that, it wasn’t great in our opinion.
#4. Tim Hortons – Tim Hortons Sausage, Egg & Cheese English Muffin Sandwich
Here is a quick overview of the Tim Horton’s breakfast sandwich:

CALORIES | 440 |
TOTAL FAT (g) | 26 |
SODIUM (mg) | 740 |
CARBOHYDRATES (g) | 28 |

We all love Tim Horton’s, there isn’t a doubt about it. A double-double goes a long way on those long work weeks, but there breakfast sandwich didn’t hit the mark for us.
We just found that their breakfast sandwich had a lot of room for improvement. The egg was rubbery (even though it’s freshly cracked), and the sandwich overall was dry.
When you bit into this breakfast sandwich, it tasted like a whole lot of bread and some egg, but everything else was invisible.
Don’t get me wrong, I ate it all, and it was a solid offering from a company trying to break into the breakfast sandwich market, but it wasn’t as good as the other fast food chains’ sandwiches by a long shot. Nice try, Tim Hortons!
#3. Burger King – Sausage, Egg & Cheese Croissan’wich
Here is a quick look at the Burger King breakfast sandwich:

TOTAL FAT (g) | 32.5 |
SODIUM (mg) | 858.1 |

I was surprised by the flavour of this Burger King’s Sausage, Egg & Cheese Croissan’wich. The croissant was surprisingly light and flakey, and the flavour of the egg and the sausage was actually pretty great.
I noticed that they did microwave the sandwich after they made it, which made it a little too moist, actually, that’s being too nice, it just felt kinda wet.
Overall, It was different from the other breakfast sandwiches, and it had a great texture and flavour. I would purchase it again.
#2. A&W – Sausage & Egger®
Here is a peek into the health specs of the A&W breakfast sandwich:

CALORIES | 530 |
TOTAL FAT (g) | 34 |
SODIUM (mg) | 720mg |
CARBOHYDRATES (g) | 34g |

The A&W Sausage & Egger® was good, yet it was the priciest of the five.
I thought that the flavour of the sausage was better than all the breakfast sandwiches.
Overall, the sandwich was a good balance of egg, cheese, and English muffin, and it tasted delicious. I would definitely purchase this sandwich again.

I really didn’t want McDonald’s to win!
I wanted a new breakfast sandwich king to be crowned the winner, but you have to give credit to McDonald’s for a super yummy breakfast sandwich that’s priced excellent.
I can’t say enough about this choice, it’s priced right, and it tastes complete. The sausage was juicy with a small bit of spice, the egg tasted fresh and the bun was soft and delicious.
Overall, it’s the best, and it remains on the breakfast sandwich throne.
Conclusion
I get that everyone has different likes and dislikes, and your favourite may differ depending on many factors.

Our conclusions are as follows:
- The Best Breakfast Sandwich in Canada is McDonald’s Bacon or Sausage ‘N Egg McMuffin.
- The Cheapest option would also be McDonald’s (at the time of this article), which comes in at about $3.50
- The healthiest breakfast sandwich is a tough one because they’re all the same in health specs with a few dips and rises. I would lean to the Subway breakfast sandwich because you can throw some vegetables on it.
