10 Canadian Fast-Food Chains I’m Obsessed With

I’ve always believed that Canada’s fast-food scene doesn’t get nearly enough love. Sure, we’ve got the classics like Tim Hortons, but there’s so much more happening across the country—hidden gems and ones that are not so hidden. These are all my good-to places for a late night snack or a quick bite to eat for lunch.

Whether I’m craving crispy chicken, a fully loaded poutine, or a burger I can customize down to the last pickle, there’s a Canadian chain that nails it. And honestly? I wish every one of these had a location right down the street from me.

Here are 10 Canadian fast-food chains that I love—some from repeat visits, others from unforgettable food moments while traveling.

1 Harvey’s – The Burger You Build Yourself

Harvey’s is one of those places that makes you feel like you’re in control. You order your burger, then watch it come to life at the garnish station with whatever toppings you want. It’s kind of genius. And don’t get me started on their “Frings” combo—fries and onion rings in one glorious box? Yes, please.

2 Mary Brown’s – Fried Chicken Done Right

The first time I tried Mary Brown’s, I was hooked. Their fried chicken is juicy, crispy, and full of flavor, and the Big Mary sandwich? Unreal. Plus, their seasoned potato wedges (aka taters) are dangerously good. It’s comfort food done the right way—crispy, golden, and Canadian to the core.

3  St-Hubert – A Montreal Must-Visit

I actually visited St-Hubert for the first time while visiting my brother-in-law in Montreal. He insisted I try it—and wow, he was right. Their rotisserie chicken was so tender, and that signature St-Hubert gravy? I may or may not have wanted to drink it. I totally get why it’s a Quebec staple.

4 A&W Canada – Better Than You’d Expect

Not to be confused with its American counterpart, A&W Canada has carved out its own identity since becoming independent in 1972. With over 800 locations nationwide, it’s renowned for its Burger Family lineup—yes, there’s a Papa, Mama, Teen, and even a Baby Burger. Their commitment to quality ingredients, like hormone-free beef and organic coffee, has endeared them to health-conscious Canadians. The only negative that I have with A&W Canada is that it’s going to cost you an arm and a leg to get a meal.

5 New York Fries – Mall Food Court Royalty

I’ve never been able to walk past a New York Fries without stopping. Despite the name, it’s a true Canadian brand, and they make fries so well. Their poutines are the real deal—crispy fries, cheese curds, hot gravy. I mean, what more could you ask for?

6 BeaverTails – The Sweetest Part of Canada

I tried my first BeaverTail at a winter festival, and it was love at first bite. The warm fried dough, the cinnamon sugar, the toppings—it’s pure joy in pastry form. I still dream about the one with Nutella and bananas. It’s hands-down my favorite Canadian dessert.

7 Mr. Sub – Old School and Proud

Mr. Sub is the kind of place that doesn’t try to be trendy—it just delivers solid, satisfying subs every time. It’s got that nostalgic vibe, and I love that it’s stayed true to its roots. Sometimes, a simple, classic sandwich is exactly what you need.

8 White Spot – West Coast Classic

I discovered White Spot while road-tripping through British Columbia, and now I understand why locals are so loyal. Their Legendary Burger is exactly that—legendary. And their Triple O sauce? I would absolutely buy that by the bottle if I could.

9 Pizza Pizza – Late-Night Savior

Pizza Pizza is one of those places that just hits the spot when you need it most. It’s reliable, fast, and their creamy garlic dipping sauce is elite. They’ve got tons of options beyond pizza too—wings, poutine, even deep-fried desserts. It’s always a solid choice.

10 Swiss Chalet – Comfort Food Goals

Swiss Chalet just feels like home. I don’t know how else to describe it. Their rotisserie chicken is always on point, but the real MVP is the Chalet Sauce. People are obsessed with it for a reason. When I want a meal that feels warm, nostalgic, and a little indulgent, I think of this place.

Every time I visit Canada, I come back with a longer list of fast-food favorites. These places have character, history, and flavors you just can’t find anywhere else. Whether it’s a classic poutine or a fried chicken sandwich with a twist, Canadian fast food is in a league of its own—and I love every bite of it.

Tried any of these? Got a favorite I missed? Let’s talk food—I’m always looking for my next must-try spot!
